The Practical Session activity requires the student to attend either a virtual or physical location, where in addition to attending they may be required to demonstrate skills or techniques for assessment.
How to Set Up a Practical Session Activity
- Follow steps 1 - 4 as outlined on the create an activity help page
- Link Outcomes (optional)
See the help page on outcomes tab for more detail on setting up unit outcomes.
Where outcomes have been created, these can be applied to the to the practical session, indicating that this outcome is assessable and should be demonstrated in the physical assessment.
Either select individual outcomes with the drop down box, clicking the add button to add these one at a time - or click add all button to add all outcomes as assessable items for this practical session.
- Link Skills (optional)
Skills can be applied to the practical session, indicating that this skill is assessable and should be demonstrated in the physical assessment.
- Break up your skills list by creating categories to group related skills
- Click add new, to add a new category
- Use the drop down box to select a category which has already been created
- Add a skill description by typing in the skill box
- Indicate whether the skill is required
- Click add to add the skill into your skills list
- Break up your skills list by creating categories to group related skills
- Link or upload resources (optional).
This may include reading material, detailed PDF instructions, templates, worksheets or other documents the student will require for the practical session.
Before you have saved the activity, you have the opportunity to provide external links
Once the activity has been saved, you will instead have the opportunity to attach files
- Provide instructions in the notes tab (optional)
The notes tab allows you to populate instructions which are visible in the student portal. This might include information about the practical session and what they are required to do
- Save your changes
Practical Session Activity Workflow
- Student logs into student portal, and obtains details of their practical session/s - date, time, location
- Student attends on the scheduled date/s and time/s
- In the trainer portal the trainer will;
- mark attendance
- assess outcomes (optional)
- assess skills (optional)
- If the student does not attend, or is unable to demonstrate the required outcomes and skills they may need to attend another practical session for further assessment
- When the student has attended and been assessed as competent in all outcomes and skills by the trainer in the trainer portal the practical session will flag as completed, and the activity will lock
