The catapult unit activity type allows you to facilitate integration between your Vasto instance and any catapult learning resources you have access to.
1. Enable the API/LTI Connection with Catapult
In order to utilise this activity type, the integration must first be setup. Please refer to this help page for more information getting this connection established.
2a) Adding content (new)
When you add a new course to Vasto post Catapult setup, where a constituent unit has a Catapult ready exam, you will have a notification on the right hand side to denote this.
If you have access to a Catapult exam against a particular unit, you will be able to automatically attach it to any newly created units in this method, by ticking the box to automatically add Catapult Unit activities to any Catapult enabled units selected below.
NOTE: The option to automatically add will only show when you have keys entered per step 1. If for some reason you cannot yet add keys, adding the text coming_soon to all API and LTI fields for the primary account 1 will enable this checkbox without an active link to Catapult turned on
2b) Adding content (already existing)
Where a unit already exists in your account and Catapult integration has been added post the unit existing, simply navigate to the relevant unit/s, and from the activity tab select the activity type Catapult Unit. This activity type will only appear if Catapult offers content for the selected unit, and any content you have access to through Catapult will automatically be linked across.
3) Add activities to pathway/s
As is the case with any added activity, it will need to be added to a pathway in order for the content to flow into the student's portal.
4a) Scheduling for new students
The process for enrolling into a timetable item for Catapult enrolments is the same for any other timetable. Create a timetabled instance of the unit or course, and select the appropriate pathway with the Catapult unit activity and commence enrolling students.
4b) Scheduling for existing students
If you have existing students utilising both Vasto and Catapult, you can add the Catapult unit activity to an existing pathway. Any IN PROGRESS students who have not completed the unit will be required to complete the Catapult unit activity (if set as compulsory) to have the unit marked complete. Any completed students will not be impacted by adding the Catapult unit activity to an existing, completed enrolment.
5) Catapult trainer access
The assigned Catapult trainer responsible for marking a student's work, can access this directly from their Vasto assessor portal. In order for this to link, the trainer/assessor's email address in both Vasto and Catapult must match for existing users.
The assigned Catapult trainer is derived from the assessor set against the individual unit, allocated against the student within the timetable item. Where that is not set, it will be derived from page 2 of a timetabled item where pathways are set, and where that is not set it will be derived from the assessor assigned to a timetabled item.
When the Vasto assessor logs into their Catapult portal, they will see a list of their students requiring grading.
6) Activity progression
Results/outcome updates from Catapult are triggered at designated points in Vasto. The system will recognise COMMENCEMENT and COMPLETION of work in the Catapult system and will update the Vasto status and start/end dates at activity and unit level accordingly without any manual intervention.
7) Student cancellations
Catapult enrolments are automatically deleted via the API when an administrator in Vasto changes the unit status to CANCELLED, UNCHOSEN ELECTIVE, DISCONTINUED, WITHDRAWN DNS, GENERAL EXEMPTION or WITHDRAWN.
