Badges in Vasto
If you haven't done so already, it is recommended that you read the following article to gain an understanding of what digital badges are, and some tips on how to create a new badge design:
This article will highlight how you can utilise these digital badge designs at the course and the unit level in Vasto. This article will detail where to navigate to add the badge template, and how to configure the badge so that you can start issuing badges to students today!
- In order to review your automated issuing setup, navigate to Setup → System Defaults.
- From the page you are presented with, find and jump across to the Badges tab.
- You should see your automated issuing settings. If you are wanting a badge to automatically be issues to students upon either commencement or completion, make sure to enable this here.
This article assumes that you have already designed your digital badge template external to Vasto, following the guidelines in Creating a Digital Badge Design.
- Once you have signed into Vasto, navigate to Courses → My Courses.
- Locate the course that you ware wanting to create a badge template for, and click on the edit button on the right hand side of the page.
- Once the course loads, navigate to the Badges tab on the right-hand side of the page.
- Unless you have created a template against this course previously, you should be presented with a message advising that there are no badges present. Click on the Add New button to add your new template.
- Once you click on this button, you will be presented with the following form to complete your badge template upload:
- Brand - This is a dropdown menu that allows you to select the brand that the badge should be associated with.
- Title - This could be the name of the qualification as an example, and the title will be visible to students upon course completion.
- Description - Another field that will be visible to students upon badge issuance. Utilise this field to describe what the student has done to achieve the award.
- Course profile web page URL - This should be a link that directs to the learning the student has completed. The example image simply shows Vasto's site, but you could have this direct to your third-party website which lists your available curriculum.
- Skills List - Add the skills that you would expect a student to have acquired upon course completion. These should be separated by commas.
- Violet - Please note that Violet is an additional paid feature, and utilises OpenAI to automatically generate a skills list. If you are interested in utilising this feature, please contact sales@learntgroup.com.au for more information.
-
Attach Image - This is where you can upload your previously designed badge template. This is the badge that students will be awarded and that they can share on social media after issuance. Note that as mentioned on the form, dimensions should be 306px x 306px and in a PNG format.
- After clicking on the button to attach an image, you will be presented with the Files Manager, filtered by Badge type images. If you have already uploaded your template previously, you can select it from the list. If not, simply click on the Upload New File button which achieves the same result. Make sure to click on the Attach Selected File button after you have selected your template.
- Now all that is left is to click the Save button on the form. The badge is now ready to be issued!
This is done in an extremely similar way to setting up courses. It is just the initial navigation that differs:
- Once you have signed into Vasto, navigate to Courses → My Units.
- Locate the unit that you ware wanting to create a badge template for, and click on the edit button on the right hand side of the page.
- Once the unit loads, navigate to the Badges tab on the right-hand side of the page.
- Unless you have created a template against this unit previously, you should be presented with a message advising that there are no badges present. Click on the Add New button to add your new template.
- Once you click on this button, you will be presented with the following form to complete your badge template upload:
- Brand - This is a dropdown menu that allows you to select the brand that the badge should be associated with.
