To utilise a manual workflow, students are unable to freely request a time extension. Do not enable that students can apply for a time extension, and do not enable self-serve requests.
Admin users can manually apply an extension to an enrolment (and charge a fee if necessary) at their own discretion. This workflow is useful when extensions are infrequent and only permitted for exceptional circumstances.
Set up
This workflow requires that the system defaults do not allow students to request extra time.
The box to 'Allow self-serve time extensions' is not selected, and no daily fee should be stipulated.

Navigate to the Advanced Student Editor

Open the time extension panel
Click the time limit icon to open the time extension panel -
Time Extension Details
Add a new time extension by populating the number of days access to be added - or alternatively indicate a new final access date.If applicable, populate the extension fee payable, then click the save button.
(NOTE: If there is no fee payable, leave this blank and check the box to activate the extension immediately.
Do not proceed with steps 4 through 6 below, the student now has extended access applied free of charge.) -
Issue Payment Request
If an extension fee is applicable, click the dollar sign icon to issue a payment request to the student.
Once this has been actioned, the icon will no longer be available and it will instead confirm that a payment request has already been created - with an option to delete the payment request.(This is useful if a student decides they no longer want their extension)

Student receives payment request, and places payment
A student is issued a payment request via their student portal, which they need to place a payment against.
- Student can now see the additional time applied to their enrolment
Once a student places payment on the payment request, their time extension is automatically activated and additional time added to their course access.
