Time Extension Requests allow a student to request extra time in order to complete their course or unit where there is a limit imposed on how long they have to finish their training. You may want to charge a fee for this extra time.
Students can apply for a time extension within their student portal, or admin users can apply a time extension via the admin portal.
Where a student applies for a time extension this can be;
- a fully automated process where a daily fee is charged, with self-checkout via student portal
- a partially automated process where students request an extension, then an admin user issues a payment request for a nominal fee (ie. fee is not calculated daily, and your policy is to charge a monthly fee, flat fee, etc.)
- a partially automated process where students request an extension, then an admin user applies an extension free of charge
Admin users can also apply a time extension at their discretion where it has not been enabled that students can apply for an extension via the student portal. This workflow is useful when extensions are infrequent and only permitted in exceptional circumstances.
Initial Set Up
To allow students to request a time extension via the student portal, this should be enabled and configured in the System Default settings.
This should be done in combination with defining the time limit and whether a student can self-serve the check out of their extension request at course or unit level (depending what they are enrolling into).
